Know the Difference between Stress and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are both a very common affair and almost every person has experienced them at least once in their life. Both of these problems have some symptoms that are in common but you should not mistake them for being the same. There is a fine line between stress and anxiety and understand it is very important for you to receive the right treatment.

What is Stress?

Stress does not necessarily be negative. It is also sometimes short-lived in some people. In short, stress is a response or reaction to an event. When you get your work done within the mentioned deadline, it can be deduced as the positive effect of stress. But at the same time, stress can also lead to lack of concentration and sleep disorders in some people. In that case, it can be termed as the negative effect of stress. Some of the symptoms of stress are –

  • Sleep disorders
  • Sweaty palms and feet
  • Persistent headaches
  • Increased heart rate
  • Heart attack or stroke in extreme situations

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is not short term and is a sustained form of mental health disorder. Most of the times, anxiety is triggered by some form of stress. The intensity of level of anxiety usually varies with the impact that the particular event leaves on you. Some of the symptoms of anxiety are –

  • Not being able to control worrying about everything
  • Experiencing fatigue more frequently
  • A feeling of restlessness in stress conditions
  • The responses are all exaggerated
  • Dizziness
  • Inability to sleep
